The original idea for the montage came from the picture above which I had photographed on the Isle of Skye. I was attracted to the shape of the ivy on this ruined church which reminded me of human limbs. I also liked the shape of a First World War soldier which seemed to me to be present!

I experimented with various ideas and at one point copied and pasted the picture in Photoshop to create a mirror image, this gave the impression on a throne as you can see above.

A throne needed someone to sit on it, so I brought in a photograph of a statue. In order to create more of an ambiguous result I added a studio photograph and merged the two together. The two pictures are shown below.

It took a lot of work to successfully integrate the various parts of the image, including adding the jewels in the crown which were not present in the original slide.
