Maccaferri style guitar

I often photograph from conceptual ideas and the series presented here is a very recent piece of work inspired by my guitar and ukulele playing in several local groups. The series concentrates on an in-depth study of the Maccaferri style guitar, my favourite instrument. Here I have emphasised the sensual, almost female, forms of the instrument together with the highly tactile polished surfaces and textures inherent in the sumptuous grain of the exotic woods used in its construction. This type of guitar was popularised by Django Reinhardt, and if you look carefully you might imagine that you can hear his wonderful jazz chords emanating from its deep, dark, resonating body, a sound that makes this such an endearing and wonderful instrument both to play and listen to.
