Imagine the day, February 1st, it is extremely cold, a biting wind, snow flurries and ice on the water, a perfect day for sitting by the fire with a good book.
So just why are huge numbers of people going on a six mile run and for good measure, traversing an army assault course at the end? Are they mad? well probably, but they seem to be having fun, or maybe fun is not quite the rignt word, but there is obviously a certain satisfaction in actually completing the course.
The pictures tell the story, the assault course is called 'The Killing Fields' and for good reason, they run over burning bales of hay, jump into icy water, climb rope ladders with cold hands, wade deep streams, squirm through tyre tunnels and drop into cold water again and again. The clothes vary from wetsuits to almost nothing, not to mention numerous fun costumes including Spiderman himself.
