Worcester people remember the Worcester book. Even now, almost a decade later, complete strangers in the street will recall this crazy idea that was taken to completion by a sense of conviction. It was a point in time plucked from a continuing story of a Cathedral city – the ‘Faithful City' – and the people that live there… Now with hindsight this is history. So much has changed. So much is the same.
Worcester Book 2 (working title) would provide a similar platform and a similar democracy. Its moment in time would be from September 1st, 2011 to September 1st, 2012 and would encapsulate the minutiae and the momentous. It would record the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, and the year when London 2012 brought the Olympic torch to our patch. Its scope would embrace the city. It would show the eddies of change and the new build with optimism, show the changing High Street with some concern and show our continually changing seasons and weather. While recording the microcosm we know as Worcester it will encapsulate the larger picture of England itself.
The photographers, some three dozen or so of them, will be mainly from the local community and the anticipation is that some of the original photographers may wish to contribute. The outcome of the project will be a book available ‘on demand' through Internet publishing which will be ready in good time for Christmas 2012, and a working website: http://www.worcesterbook.co.uk
