These pictures are a selection from those taken for a recent project. The idea was to select a simple object and explore it in depth. In this case I choose a small feather (the first picture in the gallery below shows the feather in its entirity) and I spent about 2 - 3 hours exploring textures and design.
Setting yourself a project such as this is quite demanding and requires a lot of thinking about as you create more pictures. The obvious photographs are taken first and then you need to use your imagination to create images that are different from those already made. It is a good excercise to improve your compositional skills and it is also very enjoyable.
The photographs were taken with a Nikon D300 with a 105 macro lens and using window light for illumination. One picture was taken using a set of bellows.
